Katie Walker visited Sitting Firm Chairmakers Ltd. in 2012. It was then that she first met Dave Green and hatched a plan to take the Windsor rocker forward to batch production launching with its first retailer - Heals in Tottenham Court Road, London.
A friend had introduced Katie to the joys of Windsor chair making and from that the idea of the Windsor rocker was born. From those initial days she was hooked on this very honest, timeless method of construction and working with Dave over the next 7 years cemented that passion.
The Windsor rocker was awarded a Design Guild Mark and was included in the Heals 100 design icons. The Windsor Footstool was launched at ‘Crafted - Makers of the Exceptional’ for Crafted Alumni at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
The Eliza rocking chair was launched to celebrate the 150th year of John Lewis.
Katie Walker won the commission to design a high chair for Prince George and later worked on developing a design for batch production with Sitting Firm that was fully approved by the Furniture Industry Research association for meeting all the relevant British Safety Standards.
Katie also designed the Traditional chair which has lead to the development of the Eliza range which is now available direct through Katie Walker Furniture.
Katie Walker Furniture joined forces with Sitting Firm to produce a new chair design for the meeting rooms of the GREAT campaign at 10 Downing Street which led to Katie and Dave being given a tour of number 10 Downing Street.
Dave was always ready for a challenge and even gave a steam bent version of the Weight & see mirror a go!
Although Dave Green no longer makes the pieces in the Katie Walker Furniture range, his influence has been considerable and we like to feel Sitting Firm lives on in the Windsor pieces that are available in the collection.
