Made in rippled ash, originating from the Longleat Estate, and finished with a white tinted hard wax oil.
Commissioned by The Furniture Makers Company, the City of London livery company, this piece was the winning entry in an invited competition and was presented to HRH the Duchess of Cambridge in 2014.
Taking a contemporary approach to traditional chair-making techniques, the form of Prince George’s high chair follows its function. The backrest curves around the body for comfort and provides a sense of containment. This curve also allows one front leg to flow seamlessly into the other. The front legs and the top rail of the backrest are steam bent; all other curved elements are laminated from birch plywood and ash veneer. Prince George’s high chair has been designed with longevity in mind. It is a high chair but can be used without the retaining baby bar as His Royal Highness grows.
The HRH Prince George's high chair was a site specific commission. If you would like more information on this commission or to enquire about the commissioning process then please click here.
